Bella Kotak is a fine art, fashion and portrait photographer based in Oxford and London England. Growing up in Kenya, Bella would always steal her father’s camera and take pictures, and through this discover her interest in photography at a very young age, but didn’t pursue it as a career in the beginning. After college, finding herself working as an architect in a job she hated, Bella decided to quit and pursue her passion for photography, but not before she raided the flower shop downstairs from her work office to add some floral spice to her photography.
Bella recounts shooting anything and everything that came her way in the beginning. Working this way wasn’t fulfilling to her personally, so she decided to only shoot for herself as a way to find more satisfaction in her work. It also turns out that this type of work is what would drive a larger following and bring in paying clients.
Bella considers herself a perfectionist, but has learned over time that you really need to be willing to get things wrong and learn from those mistakes in order to make creative and business breakthroughs. She’s taken on the mindset that her favorite photograph is the one she hasn’t taken yet, which pushes her to keep exploring and finding new ways to improve and progress in her photography. She also is constantly nurturing her online audience, which has broadened her scope and continues to open doors to many professional opportunities.
