Joel Robison is a Canadian fine art photographer currently based in the UK. Joel specializes in conceptual portraiture. He describes his work as a whimsical take on day to day life. Joel grew up drawn toward the arts, encouraged by his parents to be whatever he wanted to be. There wasn’t a large community of artists in his hometown, so social media gave him the opportunity to interact with other creative people and cultivate his interest in photography.
Joel was chosen by Coca-cola to travel for nine months as a photographer for the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, which gave him the opportunity to quit his job and focus his energy full-time on photography. This experience lead to more introductions and exposure that lead him to more opportunities and has kept Joel on the road pretty consistently. He says he’s a lot like a turtle because he carries his house on his back, which gives him a lot of freedom in terms of where and when he can create his imagery.
Joel is constantly feeding his skill as a photographer by surrounding himself with different people and points of view. He also seems to work most on his business skills, since these things do not come naturally to him, but are necessary for his long-term success.
Currently, in addition to his commercial work, Joel is also teaching workshops to people at all stages of their photography journey and trying to encourage them in their pursuit of personal growth and fulfillment.
